NAACP holding Human Rights Banquet
John Mattox, the founder and curator of the Underground Railroad Museum in Flushing, Ohio, will be the keynote speaker for NAACP Human Rights Banquet at 7 p.m. May 3 at the DoubleTree hotel in North Strabane Township. Mattox is also a local historian with an extensive collection of publications, books and articles he combined and put on display inside the museum.
“By sharing our heritage with other people, together we can learn what we have in common and be able to strengthen our network of understanding,” Mattox said of the upcoming awards banquet.
The NAACP is honoring two local men during the banquet.
Abraham Key, president and chief executive officer of Pony Baseball and Softball will receive the 2013 Human Rights Award, while David Gatling will receive the Branch Service Award at the banquet.
