Dump a Duck
WAYNESBURG – The sun was shining as employees of Southwest Regional Medical Center hosted another successful duck race in support of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
Duck Race 2013, called Operation Dump a Duck this year, was held Sunday at Greene County Fairgrounds.
In lieu of their traditional swim down the stream, the ducks instead were hoisted into the air aboard the Waynesburg-Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company’s fire truck then “dumped” onto a target.
The event brought together families to enjoy a day of games, food, prizes, an egg hunt and a magician. Attendees also enjoyed music by Jay’s Jukebox and a dance with Health Diggity Dog, Southwest Regional’s mascot.
The winner’s of the event were Brian Tennant, first; Chuck Stewart, second; Mary Beth Rudy, third; and Gwynn Kiste, last.
The winners were determined by the position the ducks, marked with a number that corresponded to the participant’s name, landed in a small bucket insidie an inflatable child’s swimming pool. The last-place “winner” was determined by whose duck landed the farthest from the pool.
The event raised more than $7,000 in support of the Relay for Life, which will be held May 4-5 at the Raider Field of Pride.
