A North Strabane Township woman, already facing drunken-driving charges, was arrested by township police Wednesday on assault charges.

Chelsea Marie Tinker, 23, of 165 Willow St., is accused of stabbing her boyfriend, Steven Moses, in the chest last week. She was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Jay Weller on charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and simple assault.

North Strabane police were called April 16 to the emergency room at Canonsburg General Hospital for a report of an assault. Moses told police he and Tinker got into an argument about their dog.

Tinker reportedly grabbed a knife. Moses said he wrapped his arms around her in an attempt to take the knife and was cut.

Police said Moses had a laceration near the base of his neck that was several inches long and several inches wide. He also had a bite mark on his shoulder that he said came from Tinker.

Tinker reportedly fled their home before police arrived. She was found several hours later at a home in Canonsburg and taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Tinker was ordered held for court Wednesday by Weller on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana, driving under suspension and possession of drug paraphernalia stemming from a March 16 traffic stop on Racetrack Road. Police said Tinker stopped in the middle of the road for no apparent reason and then drove into the oncoming lane while attempting a right turn. Her blood-alcohol content was almost double the 0.08 percent limit presumed for intoxication, police said, and chemical tests showed she had marijuana in her system.

A preliminary hearing on the new charges is set for Tuesday before Weller. Tinker was placed in the Washington County jail on $30,000 bond.
