Michael Kasula, a corrections officer at the Washington County jail, was promoted to the position of alternative sentencing coordinator by action of the county prison board Wednesday.

The coordinator’s position, which pays $41,656, was vacant because of the promotion earlier this month of Christopher Cain to the rank of major, which requires him to oversee daily operations at the jail. The changes occurred in the wake of Joseph Pelzer’s retirement as jail warden in February.

The motion passed by a vote of 4-0. Chairman Larry Maggi and District Attorney Eugene Vittone were absent.

The board of commissioners Thursday extended the current contract with Curtis Pharmacy, Washington, for jail pharmacy services through April 30, 2014, at a total yearly cost of approximately $104,000, an action that the prison board also approved by a 4-0 vote.

Warden John Temas reported that the 330 inmates housed at the Washington County jail at the end of March included 268 men and 62 women.
