HANOVER (AP) – An animal shelter in central Pennsylvania is under quarantine and four dogs have been euthanized after the outbreak of a deadly virus.

Adams County SPCA shelter manager Abigail Avery says the parvovirus spread to three other dogs after a stray pit bull mix was admitted before officials knew it had the contagious virus. All four of the dogs have been euthanized.

Now, The Evening Sun of Hanover reports the shelter is under quarantine. Avery says she hopes there are no more cases, but that the remaining dogs in the shelter will be receiving daily tests.

The Antietam Humane Society will be accepting strays for the Adams County SPCA.
