Driver in fatal Evans City crash out of hospital

EVANS CITY(AP) – The driver of a rural Western Pennsylvania transit bus for senior citizens and people with disabilities has left a hospital.
Ninety-one-year-old Claudette Miller, of Callery, died and nine other passengers were hurt in Friday’s crash in Evans City. That’s about 25 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
Fifty-nine-year-old Frank Schaffner was driving the Butler Area Rural Transit bus as part of a program run by the Alliance for Nonprofit Resources. The Associated Press could not immediately locate a phone number for Schaffner who got out of the hospital Monday.
The program’s executive director, Michael Robb, says police have told him the bus stopped on the tracks in foggy weather before it was hit by the train at an unmarked crossing about 8:10 a.m. Friday.
Evans City police and the Federal Railroad Administration have continued to investigate.
