MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) – A hall of fame/museum and a merchandise store are part of West Virginia University’s plan for a new baseball stadium near Morgantown.

Details of the project are contained in a request for qualifications for potential bidders released by the university last week.

The Dominion Post reports that the request also includes about 2,500 reserved seats and about 1,000 general admission seats. The general admission seats also could include picnic areas, party decks and grass berm seating.

The merchandise store will sell baseball and other memorabilia. Miscellaneous stadium areas include a first aid station and ATM spaces.

A marquee will be located at a new Interstate 79 interchange that is to be constructed between the Westover and Star City Exits.

The $16 million Mountaineer Ballpark will be funded with tax-increment financing.

WVU, Fairmont State and the New York-Penn League have expressed interest in playing there.

WVU hopes to award a design-build contract in November, according to the request.
