Son-in-law arrested in deadly stabbing
State police arrested the son-in-law of a Fallowfield Township man who was found stabbed to death late Wednesday night in his sport utility vehicle in a remote part of Westmoreland County.
Michael A. Martin, 40, of 3 Daily Ave., Fallowfield, was arrested Thursday in connection with the homicide of Earl Weygandt after the 67-year-old man’s body was found in a parking lot off Route 31 in Donegal Township, police said.
A motorist passing by TJ’s Restaurant on Route 31 about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday noticed the SUV’s engine smoking and found Weygandt in the vehicle with it still running.
State police from the Greensburg barracks said Weygandt, who lived at the same address as Martin, was stabbed nine times. The most severe wounds were to his neck and esophagus, police said.
A woman who answered the phone at Weygandt’s home declined to comment.
State police charged Martin with first-degree homicide. Investigators would not elaborate on what evidence led them to Martin.
However, the Westmoreland County coroner’s office performed an autopsy Thursday morning and determined Weygandt’s manner of death as homicide.
State police announced they plan to release more details at a 10 a.m. news conference today at their Greensburg barracks.
