An elderly Bentleyville woman was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment after crashing her vehicle into a tree on Thomas-Eighty Four Road in North Strabane Township Tuesday afternoon.

Sara Fitch, 80, was driving north in the 700 block of Thomas-Eighty Four around an S turn when her foot apparently slipped from the brake and onto the gas pedal, said Officer Dustin Koch. Her vehicle went into an embankment, hit a tree, continued along the embankment and then hit a larger tree in the 1 p.m. crash.

Fitch, who was wearing her seat belt, suffered a broken leg in the crash. She was flown from a landing zone at Wylandville Elementary School to Allegheny General Hospital for treatment.

The road was closed for about an hour while the crash was investigated and wreckage removed. Police from Peters and South Strabane townships assisted with the closure. Also assisting at the scene were firefighters from North Strabane and Peters townships and Canonsburg Ambulance.
