HAZLETON (AP) – A northeastern Pennsylvania man already awaiting trial on bank robbery and bad check charges has been jailed because police say he beat and threatened to kill his mother for allowing his children to cry while he was trying to sleep.

The Luzerne County public defender is representing 38-year-old Otto McNab Jr., of Hazleton, but didn’t immediately return a call for comment before normal business hours Thursday.

The (Wilkes-Barre) Times Leader reports Violet McNab was babysitting when the children began to cry, prompting her son to run down the stairs and attack her. Police say he also twisted her arm to make her drop a cellphone, and threatened to kill her if she called police.

Police say the woman got a ride to Hazleton hospital and called police after Tuesday’s attack.
