Starpointe, the mixed-use business park in Hanover and Smith townships, will have some additional funds to complete infrastructure on its latest phase in the development.

Last week, Washington County commissioners adopted a resolution approving the state’s move to increase Starpointe’s grant amount through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program by $2.5 million, to $3.75 million.

The sign-off by commissioners represented the final step for funding that was approved for the project early this year.

Dan Reitz, executive director of Washington County Council on Economic Development, which is building the park near Burgettstown, said Monday the funding increase “is the final piece of the puzzle” to complete more than $3 million worth of roads, sidewalks and water and electrical infrastructure on about 100 acres of the park’s phase 1B in Hanover Township.

Commissioners in May had approved $1.5 million of the RCAP money for the project.

Reitz said WCCED had applied for all of the funds in June 2012 but did not learn that it was approved for the money until February. He said the latest round of money will cover the remainder of water, cable, telephone and electrical lines, as well as fire hydrants, to be installed in the phase.

WCCED also is working with PennDOT to finish roads and sidewalks in Phase 1B, and should be able to seek bids on the work this fall, Reitz said.

Of the 100 usable acres in Phase 1B, Reitz said Germany-based Hörmann Flexon, a maker of commercial and industrial garage doors, has purchased 11 acres for what it has said will be a three-phase construction project.

Reitz said Monday the company expects to begin production early next month in the first phase of its plant, which was completed in July.
