A North Franklin Township man faces several charges after he allegedly hit a 13-year-old Bentleyville girl with the vehicle he was driving earlier this month and then left the scene.

Andrew Marcus Tomazin, 36, of 1355 Park Ave., is accused of striking the girl in the 500 block of Main Street near Jet’s Market in Bentleyville Aug. 14.

Southwest Regional police were called after a white van hit the girl and fled. Witnesses said the side of the van had a sign reading “Andy’s Carpet Cleaning.”

Police did an Internet search for the company and called. They said Tomazin answered the telephone and eventually admitted to police that he was driving the van. He reportedly told police that he did not see the girl and did not think he had hit her.

Tomazin reportedly told police he was pulling out of the food center parking lot. He said he looked both ways and did not see anyone or anything. When he pulled out, he saw a girl hit the front of his vehicle. Police say Tomazin told them he asked the girl if she was OK and saw her walk to the store, so he left.

The girl’s mother, Tina Jackson, told police the teen suffered swollen ribs.

Charges of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a crash involving injury, accident involving injury while not properly licensed and several traffic violations were filed Wednesday at the office of District Judge Curtis Thompson.
