PITTSBURGH (AP) – A state environmental board has given preliminary approval to new regulations covering the oil and gas industry.
The Department of Environmental Protection said in a Tuesday release that it’s recommending a 60-day public comment period on the new rules, with at least six public hearings across the state to get as much input as possible.
The draft regulations cover public parks and wildlife areas, waste management, the restoration of well sites after drilling, the construction of temporary pipelines, and other issues.
DEP said the proposed rules will be reviewed by the Attorney General’s Office, and details of public hearings will be announced in the near future.
