No injuries in bus, car crash in Canonsburg

No one was injured Tuesday afternoon when a school bus carrying four Canon-McMillan students and a car collided at Route 980’s intersection with Gladden Road and Cecil Streets in Canonsburg.
Police Sgt. Loren Cochran said the small bus, driven by Melvin Mayfield, 71, of McMurray, for Matthews Bus Co., was attempting to cross Route 980 from Cecil to Gladden about 3 p.m. when the bus struck the left rear of a car driven by Sandra Williams, 52, of Avella.
Williams was going north on Route 980.
The intersection has a flashing light, with the light red for those on Cecil and Gladden and yellow for traffic on Route 980.
The impact spun Williams’ car, Cochran said.
The students were checked by Canonsburg Ambulance personnel. Parents were notified, and another bus was sent to the scene.
Cochran said parents took two of the children home, while the other two were transported on the second bus.
Cochran said a second driver was called for the second bus.
Federal commercial driver’s license regulations require an operator involved in an accident to undergo routine drug and alcohol testing. Williams’ vehicle had to be towed.
