Charges have been filed against a Cumberland Township woman for trying to purchase a gun illegally. Rose Mary Galloway, 48, of 211 Liberty St., Apt. 7, Carmichaels tried to purchase a Marlin Rifle at the True Value Hardware store in Dry Tavern on Nov. 29.

Galloway checked no on the Alcohol Tobacco and Firearm’s form regarding mental health issues. A background check through the Pennsylvania Instant Check System came back as denied for the purchase.

When police questioned Galloway on Aug. 25 about the incident, she said she was making the purchase as a Christmas gift for her boyfriend. She acknowledged past mental health issues but said she didn’t pay attention to the question regarding them when she checked the no box. She is charged with giving unsworn falsification to authorities.

A preliminary hearing will be held before Greene County Magisterial District Judge Glenn Bates.
