Pa. man pleads guilty to abandoning hurt sheep

LANCASTER – A central Pennsylvania farmer has pleaded guilty to cruelty to animals after authorities say he left a sheep to die after it was badly hurt by a motorcycle.
The Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era reported Saturday that Emmanuel Beiler of Ronks made the plea and paid a $241 fine in district court.
Authorities say the large ram was paralyzed by the collision, after which Beiler left it in a field. A passer-by reported the sheep’s location, where a humane society officer found it. The animal was still alive a day after the collision with the motorcycle. The humane society officer euthanized it.
Mohler tells the newspaper that Beiler said someone was supposed to pick up the animal for butchering.
Beiler didn’t have a lawyer listed on the court’s online docket.
