The owner of a Canonsburg lumber and supply yard opened up Friday morning and discovered the business had been burglarized.

And for all the work the burglar did to get into the main section of Liberty Lumber, 311 Adams Ave., he came away with very little for the effort.

Ronald Cianelli told police he arrived at work about 9:30 a.m. and found the drawers open in the office. He then looked around and discovered damage in the kitchen. The business had last been open Wednesday.

The burglar entered the building from the rear. Once inside, doors to a storage room were kicked open. The burglar then broke a hole in the drywall and entered the kitchen area.

Police said the burglar climbed onto the kitchen sink and broke a hole in the ceiling tile to climb over the wall and into a restroom. The business office was then entered. The office was ransacked and the safe entered, but nothing of value was in it. A roll of quarters and some loose change was stolen, including some coins from the desk of an employee. Police estimate less than $30 was stolen.

Tools and building supplies were not stolen, but the burglar did leave behind a crowbar and hammer.
