A Marianna man accused of breaking into two Washington County homes, stealing checks and other items and camping out in one house was arraigned Wednesday on numerous charges.

Waylon C. Muniz, 19, was arraigned Wednesday on 23 charges stemming from two separate incidents in September, one in Clarksville and the other in West Brownsville.

Muniz is accused of entering a house on Penn Avenue in Clarkville between Sept. 8 and Sept. 18.

The owner’s daughter contacted police after several attempts were made to cash her mother’s checks at Charleroi Federal Savings Bank in Bentleyville. After checking the victim’s home, it was discovered that a washer, dryer, television, several pieces of jewelry and checks had been stolen, East Bethlehem Township police said. Police also noted several items were thrown throughout the house, and that the intruder cooked several meals in the home. Drug paraphernalia also was collected from the residence.

A second, similar incident occurred around Sept. 12. A man reported to West Brownville police that a $100 check bounced in his account, and that the check was made out to Waylon Muniz.

The victim said Muniz is a friend of his daughter’s and that he did not provide Muniz the check, police said. The victim also reported two saws and a rechargeable battery kit were stolen from his home, in the 600 block of Monroe Avenue.

Muniz was arraigned in front of District Judge Joshua Kanalis on several counts each of forgery, theft, receiving stolen property, burglary, criminal trespass and bad checks.

He remains in the Washington County jail on $150,000 bond. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Dec. 16.
