Recreation projects get grants

Two local projects were among those from across the state that will receive part of more than $38 million in grant money under the Community Conservation Partnership Program.
California Borough will receive $75,000 for the rehabilitation and further development of Union Street Wharf, to include construction of a handicapped-accessible public dock and boater’s deck, lighting and landscaping.
East Bethlehem Township will receive $40,000 for further development of Community Square, to include construction of comfort station, installation of utilities, expansion of parking area, handicapped access and other improvements.
The grants will support 201 conservation and recreation projects in 62 counties. The grants will fund a variety of proposals, including 36 trail projects; protecting 2,718 acres of open space; 77 community parks; five river conservation projects; and 35 projects for regional and statewide heritage area, park, greenway and trail initiatives.
