ROGERSVILLE – At its reorganization meeting Thursday, West Greene School Board re-elected Regina MacDowell as president.
MacDowell, who will be serving her third consecutive year as president, was the only candidate nominated for the position. Board member Butch Cassiday was elected vice president.
The board agreed to continue meeting the fourth Thursday of each month, except in November, when the meeting will be Nov. 20, and in December, when the board will reorganize Dec. 4.
The board holds its pre-board meeting at 6 p.m. and begins its legislative meeting at 7:30 p.m. Meetings are held in the middle-senior high school cafeteria, except in April and October, when meetings are held at Graysville Elementary; and in May and September, when they are held at Springhill Freeport Elementary.
The board also voted to hold committee meetings at 6 p.m. the second Thursday of each month in the middle-senior high cafeteria.
It agreed to include in the meeting notice that it reserves the right to take official action during committee meetings, after it was noted the board had to advertise at least seven special meetings during the past year to take action on matters that could have been addressed at a committee meeting.
Kelly Loughman was elected board representative to the Career and Technology Center Joint Operating Committee. Chad Scott was elected alternative representative to the CTC.
Scott, Daniele Frye and Lynn Wise, who had all been elected in November, were welcomed to the board. Loughman began a new term on the board, having been re-elected in November.
Following an hour-and-15-minute executive session, the board held its regular meeting for December.
The board was informed Howard and Leslie Clark, who recently purchased property in the district, have offered to provide a $5,000 scholarship each year for the next 10 years to a West Greene student.
The board approved a request by the International Club to take a 12-day trip to Greece and Italy after the school year ends in June. It will raise money for the trip, estimated to cost $3,500 to $4,000 a student.
The board approved a change order of $3,842 to Kusevich Contracting for work on the middle-senior high school renovation project. It also approved a $12,360 payment to architect, Hayes Design Group, for additional contract administration work related to the renovation project. The board also agreed to pay an additional $22,783 to construction manager URS for site management services for the renovation project. The board voted to seek quotes to install additional electrical outlets in a renovated section of the middle-senior high.
