Recreation department plans all-night skate

GREENSBORO – The Greene County Department of Recreation will ring in the New Year with the sixth annual “All Night Skate,” beginning at 10 p.m. New Year’s Eve at Mon View Roller Rink in Greensboro.

Sponsored by the Greene County commissioners, Holly Shipley of Greensboro, Waynesburg Milling Co. and Waynesburg Rent-A-Center, the skate will last until 6 a.m. New Year’s Day, The event is intended for children and teens 17 and younger. Admission is $10 per person.

Parents or guardians dropping off children must complete and sign consent forms and waivers before leaving and are encouraged to pick up children by 6 a.m. Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult during the skate.

Planned activities include an Xbox-based dance competition, games and prizes, and hot dogs and sauerkraut at midnight. Rent-A-Center will donate a large-screen TV for the dance contest, and each skill-level winner will receive a prize.

This season at Mon View, every Friday will feature a “Skate & Dance” from 7 to 11 p.m., and open skating will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturdays. Admission for all attendees will be $8 on Friday nights and $5 on Saturday nights. Times and prices may change for special events.

Due to the holidays, the roller rink will be closed Dec. 27 and 28. After the “All Night Skate,” the roller rink will be closed for routine maintenance until Jan. 24 when it will reopen at 7 p.m. for the first 2014 “Skate & Dance.” Thirteen more “Skate & Dance” events are planned for 2014. The dates are Jan. 31; Feb. 7, 14 (the annual “Valentine’s Day Skate & Dance”), 21 and 28; March 7, 14, 21 and 28; and April 4, 11, 18 and 25. The skating runs from 7 to 9 p.m., with dancing from 9 to 11 p.m. Admission is $8.

The annual “Easter Egg Hunt & Skate” is planned for 1 to 4 p.m. April 5, at Mon View Park. Admission is $7 per child, and adult admission is free when accompanying a child.

The roller rink will continue to be open on Saturdays for skating through April 26, the rink’s last day.

Mon View is available to rent for private parties at a rate of $120 for two hours. The price covers admission and skate rental for 20 people. A fee of $3 per additional person will be charged. Skate lessons are also available by appointment only.
