A Canonsburg man is in fair condition at a Pittsburgh hospital after he was ejected from his van during a crash on Route 40 just west of North Sunset Beach Road in Buffalo Township Monday night.

State police said John T. Cullen, 53, was driving east around a curve too fast for conditions when he crossed into the westbound lanes and hit a mail box at 4303 Route 40. The van then hit head-on into a tree, causing the vehicle to rotate counterclockwise. The van overturned and the passenger side hit a tree.

Police said Cullen, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected out a window on the passenger side. He was found near the rear bumper on the driver’s side of the van.

Cullen was flown to Allegheny General Hospital where a spokeswoman said Tuesday afternoon that he is in fair condition.
