Forgery, drug charges: William Scott Helmick, 39, of 111 First St., Canonsburg, was charged last week by Canonsburg police with forgery and attempted possession of narcotics after he allegedly altered a prescription for Vicodin and tried to pass it Oct. 31 at Rite Aid, 25 E. Pike St. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge David Mark.

Mother assaulted: Gregory Mershon, 56, of 1020 Fifth St., Canonsburg, was charged last week with simple assault and harassment for allegedly pushing his mother, Lynne Seiple, during a Nov. 23 confrontation at their home. Seiple was taken to Canonsburg Hospital for treatment of head, neck and hip injuries. Mershon was taken to Washington Hospital for an evaluation. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge David Mark.

Unauthorized use: Carol Jackson, 48, of 539 Blaine Ave., Canonsburg, was charged last week by Canonsburg police with unauthorized use of a vehicle after allegedly failing to return a van she borrowed last month from Thomas Moorhead of Canonsburg. She was to have the van for two days but allegedly did not return it until contacted by police. She reportedly left the van in the parking lot of Trinity Point, South Strabane Township, with the keys in it in late November. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge David Mark.

Father arrested: Gerard J. Deicas, 52, of 1217 Lookout Ave., Charleroi, was arrested Monday by Charleroi Regional police after he allegedly assaulted struck his son, Nicholas Deicas, in the face with a baseball bat. The two were reportedly arguing over rent money. The elder Deicas reportedly slammed the door on police. The house was secured and police Chief Michael Matyas persuaded Gerard Deicas to come out of the house without incident, police said. He was arraigned before District Judge Valarie Costanzo on charges of simple assault and harassment, and was released from Washington County jail Tuesday after posting $5,000 bond.

Theft, receiving charges: Kathleen D. Welding, 53, of 108 Shadycrest Court, Venetia, was charged last week by Chartiers police with theft and receiving stolen property after allegedly stealing a poster and photographs from an Alzheimer’s patient at Washington County Health Center Nov. 22. Police said the items were found in Welding’s vehicle. She had been working at the center as a nurse’s aide. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge David Mark.

Escapes injury: Joseph M. Gray, 46, of 202 E. Grant St., Houston, escaped injury Tuesday morning when his vehicle went off Henderson Avenue (Route 18) near Gretna Road and rolled over, Chartiers police said. Gray, who was not injured, had to be freed by township firefighters.

DUI, other charges: Richard Arthur Windsheimer, 40, of 292 W. State St., Oakdale, was charged Tuesday by McDonald police with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under suspension and careless driving after a Dec. 7 incident on East Lincoln Avenue. Police said that he crossed the center line near Chestnut Street, forcing oncoming drivers to swerve out of his way. Police found three empty cans of beer under the passenger seat of his vehicle. His blood-alcohol content was almost four times the 0.08 limit presumed for intoxication. The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Valarie Costanzo.

Rifles stolen: Edward Ribel of 120 Greenwood Drive told North Strabane police Monday that an H&R single-shot rifle with a scope and a Winchester lever-action rifle were stolen from a storage area beneath a stairwell in his home.

Saws stolen: Two DeWalt miter saws and a circular saw were reported stolen Monday from a house under construction at 585 Zediker Station Road, South Strabane police said. Police said it appears the burglar made two trips to the house, entering through the basement.

DUI charge: Nathan N. Clark, 25, of West Elizabeth, was charged Tuesday with driving under the influence of alcohol after he almost struck a marked city police cruiser in the 10 block of North Main Street July 21, Washington police said. The officer in the cruiser was responding to a call on Locust Avenue. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.

Assault charge: Howard E. Miller Jr., 24, of 1020 Jefferson Ave., Washington, was charged by Washington police Tuesday with simple assault after he allegedly punched Steven Rush in the face, knocking him to the ground in the 1400 block of Jefferson Avenue Dec. 2. The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.

Firearm charge: Ronald Knochel, 55, of 84 W. Wheeling St., Washington, was charged Tuesday by Washington police with carrying a firearm without a license after he allegedly was found with a handgun in his jacket pocket behind the city garage Dec. 6. The charge will be sent by summons.

Card stolen: Gale King of 611 Penn Ave. told Washington police Monday that her debit card was stolen and $400 withdrawn to pay a cable bill. Charges are pending against the alleged thief.

Prescription stolen: Amanda Dennis of 165 Sycamore St. told Washington police Monday that 50 pills of medication prescribed to her were stolen from her home.

One injured: Tiffanie Zuzak, 28, of Washington, was slightly injured Sunday morning when the vehicle in which she was a passenger went off Enon Church Road in West Finley and hit a tree. State police said the vehicle was driven by Kimberly Colbert, 28, of Dawson.
