WAYNESBURG – The Central Greene School Board held its reorganizational meeting this month and several changes were made. Assuming the position of board president is Andrew Corfont. Sharon Bennett is vice president and Eleanor Chapman is assistant board secretary.
Roberta Boyd retained her position as representative to the Greene County Career and Technology Center board with Chapman as the alternate. District business manager Deborah Crouse will continue to serve as the board secretary.
During its regular meeting, the board approved a reduction in the guidance secretary position at the high school from 12-months to 10 1/2 months.
The change came after the board approved the retirement of Cynthia Curtis at its November meeting. Her retirement is effective Dec. 31.
The opportunity to consider reducing this position was made available through a memorandum of understanding reached with the Central Greene Educational Support Personnel Association in November.
The memorandum gave the district latitude to change four clerical and a security position from 12-month to 10 1/2-month positions should they become vacant.
The agreement takes effect in July and will extend through June 30, 2016, through a two-year successor agreement with the personnel association.
According to Crouse, the new teachers’ contract gave the district the ability to reevaluate and determine the need in the positions.
She said the changes are not automatic when a position becomes vacant but will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Change only takes place if the administration finds it is warranted, she said.
Crouse stressed not all 12-month positions are being reduced.
“The memorandum of understanding allows the district no more than four clerical and one security position that could be changed.” Crouse said after the November meeting.
In other personnel matters, the board approved an unpaid leave of absence for up to two years for second grade teacher, Nicole Stephenson, beginning Jan. 15.
Erin Erjavek was hired as a long term substitute for the position of second grade teacher for the second semester of the 2013-14 school year.
The board granted tenure to special education instructor, Margret Nottingham. It hired Annamarie Moraytis as a temporary professional employee for special education in the Waynesburg Central High School for the 2013-14 school year, effective Jan. 2 and added three people to the list of non-instructional substitute employees for the remainder of the school year; Lisa Hull, Shelbie Roberts, and Douglas Saunders.
Shana Armstrong was hired to fill a vacant day shift weekend and holiday security position at the high school and Ryan Hurd was named a volunteer boys basketball coach.
