MONESSEN (AP) – The Salvation Army is asking for help after Christmas toys in Western Pennsylvania were damaged by flooding.

Salvation Army Lt. Susan Thwaite said melting snow and heavy rains Saturday clogged the drains in the Monessen Worship Center’s basement, and about 300 toys that were scheduled to be distributed Monday morning were ruined. Monessen, located in Westmoreland County, is about 25 miles south of Pittsburgh.

Thwaite said they don’t have the funds to replace the toys that were lost. This year’s kettle drive also came up short.
