WAYNESBURG – EverGreene Technology Park was awarded a $1.5 million grant through the state Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program to prepare additional park property for development.
The grant, awarded to Greene County Industrial Development Inc., will be used to construct an access road and install utilities for an additional two, 10-acre pad-ready sites. The next development phase at the park is expected to cost $5 million.
The grant was announced Monday by state Sen. Tim Solobay, D-Canonsburg, and state Rep. Pam Snyder, D-Jefferson.
“Greene County has an outstanding team that helps it compete successfully for highly sought investment capital,” Solobay said. “The grant award is good news for the project organizers and for the local economy.”
The 248-acre park now has five tenants. One building is occupied by Consol Energy Inc.; another by the Waynesburg Readiness Center of the Pennsylvania National Guard; a third houses the R.J. Lee Group and the Greene County campus of Westmoreland County Community College.
R.J. Johnson Co. also recently completed construction of two buildings at the park and is now in the process of moving into the buildings.
“EverGreene Technology Park’s job-creation potential and economic impact undoubtedly led to Greene County Industrial Developments winning this grant and I salute the board for the project and its foresight,” Snyder said.
GCID executive director Donald Chappel credited the vision and the cooperation of state and local officials for helping land the grant.
“The hard and diligent work of what I call the best operating board of directors in Greene County helps make all of this possible,” Chappel said. “A thank you goes out to the Greene County commissioners for supporting our project and a heartfelt thanks to Sen. Solobay and Rep. Snyder for carrying this across the finish line.”
GCID is now preparing to develop the additional 10-acre sites and expects to seek bids for the work in January.
Two other companies also will be moving into the park next year. Red Cedar Partners LLC recently purchased 14.8 acres at the park and will be constructing a building there for FMC Technologies Inc., a global oil and natural gas equipment service corporation.
In addition, Irwin Car and Equipment, a coal mining supply company, purchased two acres of land there this year and plans to begin construction of a building early next year.
