Defendants plead guilty

WAYNESBURG – Several criminal defendants pleaded guilty Dec. 18 before Greene County Judge Farley Toothman. They included:

Heather Lynn Bates, 26, of 215 Parkview Knoll, Carmichaels; offenses – criminal attempt to commit burglary, criminal trespass; on Oct. 1, Bates attempted to break into a house at 2538 Mt. Morris Road and was apprehended by the home’s occupant; sentence – 9 to 23 ½ months in jail, credit for 78 days served; $750 fine; drug and alcohol assessment and random drug and alcohol testing.

Cody Allen Kirk, 25, of 2 S. Main St., Point Marion; offenses – false identification to a law enforcement authority; on Aug. 3, Kirk gave false identification to a police officer who had stopped the car in which Kirk was a passenger; sentence – 30 days to 1 year in jail, $500 fine, 125 hours of community service.

In another case before the court, Melvin Clement Warrick, 26, of 286 Center School Road, Jefferson, was entered into the into the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program Monday for driving under the influence of alcohol. Warrick’s vehicle was stopped by state police for a traffic violation July 6 in Franklin Township. He had a blood-alcohol level of .119 percent.

Those accepted into the program must serve at least one year probation. Defendants charged with DUI also may have their driving privileges suspended and be required to refrain from the use or possession of alcohol. Those who successfully complete the program can petition the court to have their criminal records expunged.
