BEAVER, Pa. (AP) — A former passenger train station in western Pennsylvania may qualify for a $700,000 state grant.
The Beaver County Times reports Thursday that the Area Heritage Foundation has been renovating the 117-year-old station. The state money could be used to create a community area for musical events and weddings, as well as a catering kitchen, as part of a comprehensive renovation project.
The state grant requires a 100 percent local match.
The Beaver County Genealogy & History Center has already moved into a lower portion of the station. The Sweetwater Center for the Arts also plans to have two classrooms in the lower level.
Officials say renovations of the upper level of the passenger station should be completed in 2015.
