The preliminary hearing for Curtis Thompson Jr., the North Bethlehem Township man accused of molesting two young girls while baby-sitting them more than a decade ago, was delayed Tuesday while an out-of-county magistrate is selected for the proceeding.

Thompson, the son of District Judge Curtis Thompson, was scheduled to appear for his preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. before District Judge Joshua Kanalis.

However, his father’s connections with other magistrates in the area prompted Washington County court administrators to delay the preliminary hearing so they can find a senior magistrate to take over the proceeding.

Neither the district judge nor the new preliminary hearing date has been selected.

Thompson, 29, of 390 Pigeon Creek Road, was arrested Dec. 19 on charges of rape, indecent assault, terroristic threats, sexual assault and criminal solicitation. He is accused of assaulting two girls when they were 5 and 7 in their Cokeburg home in 2001.

The state attorney general’s office is handling the investigation. Thompson is free on $50,000 unsecured bond.
