According to the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, licensed food establishments now must employ one supervisory employee who has successfully completed a food safety training class. Completing the necessary training and passing the associated exam brings licensed food establishments into compliance with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Food Employee Certification Act.
To help food establishments meet this requirement, Penn State Extension is offering a Food Safety Training Course.
The course will be held at the Greene County Penn State Extension Office in Waynesburg from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 19 and from 9 a.m. to noon Feb.26. The examination will be held at 1 p.m. Feb. 26. The course fee of $175 per person covers the cost of the ServSafe® course book, instructional materials and refreshment breaks. Pre-registration is required. To register, log on to extension.psu.edu/food-safety/events and complete the required information. For those without Internet access, register by calling the Penn State Extension registration support unit at 1-877-489-1398.
For more information, or for a brochure, call the Penn State Extension Office in Westmoreland County at 724-837-1402. Upon request and payment in full, the course book along with a practice test can be mailed to you in advance.
Penn State encourages persons with disabilities to participate in its programs and activities. If you anticipate needing any type of accommodation or have questions about the physical access provided, please contact your local Cooperative Extension Office in advance of your participation or visit.
