Southwestern Pennsylvania Water Authority will shut off the water from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today on First and Fifth streets in Crucible to upgrade the system. Customers may experience low pressure or no water and are advised to keep some containers of water to minimize the impact of the outage.

Hewitt Presbyterian Church will host a covered-dish dinner and speaker David Grant from Destiny Rescue – a ministry dedicated to rescuing children from human trafficking and sexual exploitation. Dinner begins at 6 p.m. Sunday and the presentation begins at 6:45 p.m. Chicken, rolls and a beverage will be provided. The Greene County Veterans Affairs van to Pittsburgh, which normally runs Monday through Thursday, will operate on a different schedule the week of Feb. 11. That week, the van will operate Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Jefferson Baptist Church, 179 Pine St., Jefferson, is offering monthly support group meetings for friends and relatives of those who suffer from substance abuse of any kind. The next meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12 in the church basement. The meetings are on the second Tuesday of every month at the same time. At this meeting, people can talk to others who are struggling with how to deal with their loves ones who are addicted to alcohol or drugs. The American Red Cross will hold a training session for those who would like to volunteer at emergency disaster shelters. The session is sponsored by the Greene County United Way, Community Action Southwest, Southwest Regional Medical Center and others. The session will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Feb. 28 at the National Guard Readiness Center at Evergreene Technology Park. Waynesburg University will host a Spring Overnight Visitation for high school seniors March 24 and 25. The visitation gives prospective students the opportunity to experience student life while interacting with university students. Upon arriving, prospective students will be paired with a current student who will serve as an overnight host. Participants will experience life in residence halls, academic programs, student life and campus facilities. The spring overnight visitation will host about 50 high school seniors.
