A North Franklin Township man was charged Tuesday by township police with robbery of a motor vehicle after he allegedly tried to force his way into a vehicle at Trinity High School last week.
Alexander David Spencer, 20, of 399 Franklin Terrace, also is charged with attempted robbery of a motor vehicle, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.
Vehicles were leaving the high school just before 3 p.m. Jan. 29. A vehicle driven by a 17-year-old North Franklin girl was waiting in line to leave the parking lot near the Zelt Street gate. A 16-year-old North Franklin girl was a passenger.
While she was stopped, Spencer approached and indicated he wanted to talk. The 17-year-old told police she knew Spencer because they live in the same neighborhood.
The girl opened the window a few inches. She told police she could smell alcohol on Spencer’s breath. Spencer asked her for a ride home. When the girl told him no, Spencer reportedly grabbed the door handle but the door was locked. He then reached inside and pressed a button to unlock the door, police said.
The driver stared blowing the horn, and others in the area started yelling at Spencer. The driver was then able to get out of the lot and drive away.
Spencer was found by police walking on a street near his home. Spencer told police that after work he walked to a bottle shop, where he purchased a six-pack of beer.
When asked how he purchased it since he was under 21, Spencer told police he told the clerk he forgot his identification.
Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.
