Burgettstown Borough Council announced the hiring of attorney Phil Sbrolla during its meeting Monday. Sbrolla, of the firm Cipriani and Werner, will represent the borough during proceedings involving a suit brought by former Smith Township police officer Derek Dayoub.

Burgettstown solicitor Robert Clark recused himself in the proceedings because of a conflict of interest arising from his representation of Smith Township.

Dayoub is suing Washington County, Burgettstown Borough, former Washington County district attorney Steve Topriani, former county chief detective Michael Aaron, former Burgettstown police chief George Roberts and McDonald police Officer William Nimal based on his allegation that he was falsely accused in 2009 of assaulting two men during an arrest.
