A 32-year-old North Charleroi food service company has closed its doors.

A message posted on the door of Jaycee Foods, a wholesale food distributor at 751 Lincoln Ave., thanked customers for their business and informed them that it closed Monday.

The message cited increased costs of doing business and declining margins as reasons for the closure and also noted that it has made arrangements for another vendor to fill customers’ orders.

The company’s website also carried the word “Closed” across the top of its page.

A message on the answering machine at the company’s business number said, “We are not taking any new business at this time. If you currently have an order with us, please leave a message after the tone.”

According to the website, Jaycee Foods began doing business in 1981 as a new entity created from the former Mon Valley Provisions. The business was started by Joseph Caruso, who was joined by his daughter, Dana Caruso Slagle, in 1990.

Caruso was unavailable for comment Wednesday.
