Occupants of two apartments in Canonsburg will be looking for another place to stay after the building was damaged by fire Thursday afternoon.
Canonsburg fire Chief Tom Lawrence said no one was home in either apartment at the building owned by Alfonso D’Amico at 202 Orchard Ave., when smoke was found coming from it about 3:15 p.m.
Lawrence said the fire was electrical in origin and appears to have started in a first-floor powder room. Because of the balloon-style construction of the two-story frame house, the fire spread to the attic.
Firefighters had the fire under control in 30 minutes. Lawrence estimated damage at $45,000. He said the building is inhabitable but can be repaired.
No one was injured. Assisting at the scene were firefighters from Houston and North Strabane Township as well as the Peters Township Rapid Intervention Team.
