PITTSBURGH (AP) – Pittsburgh police have charged a city man with robbing a bank and then possessing two baby food jars filled with gasoline and shrapnel a short time later.
Online court records don’t list an attorney for 36-year-old Nathaniel Washington who was arrested Wednesday and faces a preliminary hearing Feb. 13 on charges including possessing explosive devices, risking a catastrophe and robbery.
Police arrested Washington as he got off a bus a short time after officers say he robbed the First Niagara Bank on the city’s North Side about 12:15 p.m. Wednesday.
Police say Washington denied involvement in the bank robbery as they found a knife and the baby food grenades.
Washington allegedly handed the bank teller a note threatening to kill her if she called police, before he took about $3,600, which police found on him, too.
