Students, hospital team up for health

WAYNESBURG – Waynesburg University students will be conducting health and wellness education in the second-floor lobby of Southwest Regional Medical Center throughout the spring semester.

The education will be offered as a commitment to providing the community and its employees’ with health education, which promotes healthier living. Students will be available from 8:30 a.m. until noon on each of the days noted below:

• Feb. 8 – Quit for love – smoke-free education

• Feb. 11 – Exercise and stress

• Feb. 15 – Congestive heart failure and a low-salt diet

• Feb. 18 – Teen dating and violence

• Feb. 25 – Chest pain

• March 2 – Good nutrition and health

The students are senior level and enrolled in a course titled Clinical Prevention and Population Health.

“The purpose of the program is to help students put their knowledge to use in proactive ways so they can better understand the importance of education and prevention,” said Melany Chrash, course instructor.

Each student group will present information pertaining to a topic, which is of high significance for the area. They will have a display and handouts and will be available to answer questions. Anyone wishing to stop by and talk with them can do so during the noted schedule. Employees of Southwest Regional Medical Center also will receive credit toward their wellness program.
