Work to begin on Flight 93 visitor center

SHANKSVILLE – Groundbreaking is scheduled this summer for a visitor center and other improvements at the Flight 93 National Memorial in Southwestern Pennsylvania.
National Park Service officials told the Flight 93 Advisory Commission Saturday that final documents will be ready for contracting no later than March 19.
The Daily American reported commission vice chairwoman Donna Glessner said “Visitors will see construction this summer.”
The visitor center will house permanent exhibits and have a viewing window allowing people to look down to the site. The $20 million work also includes a pedestrian bridge over the wetlands and perhaps a learning center.
The final phase to be completed by September 2016 will be the 93-foot Tower of Voices containing 40 wind chimes, one for each passenger and crew member.
