Former PennDOT worker gets prison over false IDs

WEST CHESTER (AP) — A former supervisor at a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation driver’s license center has been sentenced to prison for a scheme to create false IDs for fugitives.
The Daily Local News reports a Chester County judge sentenced 44-year-old Khalif Abdullah Ali to 24 to 69 months in state prison on charges of tampering with public records and conspiracy to commit identity theft.
Senior Judge Thomas Gavin says Ali used his position to override the system.
Ali was arrested in March. His attorney, Assistant Public Defender Kristine Mehok, had asked the judge to sentence her client to time served to 23 months in county prison. Ali says he made a mistake and didn’t intend to hurt anyone.
Prosecutors asked for a stiffer sentence, arguing he violated the public’s trust multiple times.
