A South Franklin Township man was indicted by a federal grand jury Tuesday on charges he stole mail while employed as a driver for the U.S. Postal Service.
John Marianov, 57, of Cove Road, was charged with theft of mail. He remains free on $10,000 unsecured bond. His arraignment is scheduled for March 5.
According to the indictment, Marianov stole greeting cards and letters containing $135 in cash, $400 in checks, $80 in money orders and $3,883 in gift cards. Two opera tickets valued at $120 also were stolen.
The items were sent from Pennsylvania addresses in Venetia, Finleyville, Amity, Elizabeth, Connellsville and Merrittstown, and one in Alexandra, Va.
The mail was routed through the Washington post office on Jefferson Avenue.
If convicted, Marianov faces a maximum sentence of 5 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
