State police filed charges Wednesday against a Dunkard Township resident for operating a suspected meth lab. Michael Allen Hayes, 30, of 300 Moffit Road, Dilliner, is charged with operating a methamphetamine lab, possessing liquefied ammonia with intent to manufacture controlled substances, and manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver.

State police executed a search warrant on Hayes’ residence Tuesday afternoon following up on information leading them to believe Hayes may be manufacturing methamphetamine. Hayes and Tammy Louise Brown, who also was inside the residence at the time of the search, were taken into custody and transported to the Waynesburg barracks where police said Hayes admitted manufacturing the drug in his home. No charges were filed against Brown.

The Pennsylvania State Police Clandestine Laboratory Team seized several items from the residence, all of which are indicative of what would be found in a methamphetamine lab, police said. Among the items seized were lithium, ephedrine, red phosphorous, ephedrine, and ammonium nitrate.

Hayes is being held in the Greene County jail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 22 before Magisterial District Judge Louis M. Dayich.
