High School students from Washington and Greene Counties will attend the Young Driver Safety Summit sponsored by AA East Central and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the South Strabane Township Fire Hall on Oak Spring Road.

The summit’s theme is “Smart Choices Save Lives.” It will feature motivational workshops centered around smart driving decisions, distracted driving, car care and maintenance, and sharing the road with large trucks.

More than 26,800 drivers age 16 to 20 were involved in crashes on state highways in 2011. According to PennDOT, 26 percent of the driver deaths were alcohol-related.
