A New Eagle woman escaped serious injury Thursday afternoon when the front of her car was hit by a Norfolk Southern train at the Seventh Street crossing in Monongahela. Darlene Bright, 58, of 124 Second Ave., told police she did not hear or see anything as she attempted to negotiate the crossing, said city police Chief Brian Tempest. The northbound train hit the front of her car, knocking it completely around and pushing it back onto the sidewalk and into the porch at 101 Seventh.

Tempest said the car was heavily damaged and all the air bags deployed. Bright was taken to Monongahela Valley Hospital by Tri-Community Ambulance.
