READING – A man has been sentenced to life in prison plus 20 years in a shooting outside an eastern Pennsylvania tavern that killed one man and injured two other people.
The Reading Eagle says Berks County Judge James Bucci called 25-year-old Jose Reyes-Diaz of Reading “a cold-hearted killer” as he imposed the mandatory term Wednesday.
Reyes-Diaz was convicted last month of first-degree murder and attempted murder in the November 2011 shooting outside A-Town Cafe in Reading that killed 21-year-old Ramon Rosario-Evangelista.
Defense attorney Holly Feeney unsuccessfully suggested that the shooting was self-defense. She sought a lesser term for Reyes-Diaz, who did not speak, but Bucci made the two 10-year attempted murder terms consecutive to each other and to the life term for the slaying.
