The owner of a Canonsburg resale shop arrested by state police last month on charges of illegally possessing firearms waived his case to court Wednesday.

John Irwin Moeller 46, of 103 Anderson Drive, North Strabane Township, was charged by state police with six counts of persons not to possess firearms.

State police were contacted by Canonsburg police, who were investigating a report that Moeller had purchased several weapons at his John’s Trading Post, 20 N. Central Ave., Canonsburg, that had been stolen from a resident by his stepson.

Trooper Timothy Motte, who filed the charges against Moeller, determined Moeller was not permitted to possess firearms after pleading guilty to unrelated charges.

Moeller also faces a preliminary hearing later this month on charges of burglary and theft filed by Peters Township police in connection with the theft of a collection of artifacts that had been in a private museum. Some of the guns allegedly stolen from the collection were sold at an auction for $600,000.

Moeller remains free on $50,000 unsecured bond.
