The state Gaming Control Board has given the Washington County district attorney’s office a supplemental appropriation of $100,605 for the Illegal Slots Task Force.

“While the grant application was pending, we had to be very judicious in our use of this resource,” said First Assistant District Attorney Michael Lucas.

A part-time detective and part of a prosecutor’s salary are paid from grant money, along with per diem for detectives who assist with raids.

The Washington County commissioners noted receipt of state taxpayers’ money on Thursday, when Lucas also voted in place of District Attorney Eugene Vittone at the county salary board meeting to raise the hourly rate of four general-assignment, part-time county detectives to $20 an hour, retroactive to Jan. 24.

The detectives had been earning $15 an hour.

The salary board, which also includes the three county commissioners and Controller Michael Namie, was unanimous in its approval.

Lucas said Vittone was unable to attend the salary board meeting due to a previous commitment to meet with the Area Agency on Aging in Charleroi.
