Fired Philly housing chief settles suit for $625K

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Former Philadelphia public housing director Carl Greene has settled his wrongful firing lawsuit for $625,000.
Greene had argued he was wrongly fired in 2010 over political rivalries and personal embarrassments.
But the Philadelphia Housing Authority maintained personal problems came to affect his job performance. A PHA lawyer said during the trial that recessed this month that four sexual harassment lawsuits filed against Greene had been settled privately, at a cost to the authority of $900,000, and that tax liens and a threatened foreclosure on his residence were an embarrassment for an agency trying to collect rent from public housing residents.
A lawyer for Greene told The Inquirer that the Friday settlement was “reasonable and fair.”
The PHA said it represents a fraction of the $4 million Greene had asked for.
