Opening arguments are under way this morning in Washington County Court in the trial of Diane Marie McClelland of Coal Center, who is charged with conspiring with her husband in the 2011 murder of an elderly neighbor. Presiding over the trial is Judge John DiSalle. McClelland’s husband, David Allen McClelland, 57, pleaded guilty to stabbing to death 92-year-old Evelyn Stepko in July 2011 and is serving a life prison sentence. McClelland stole large sums of money from Stepko’s home, which prosecutors allege he, his wife and their son used to purchase property, three vehicles and guns, as well as to gamble with. More than $60,000 in musty bills was also found in envelopes in the home.
