A New Eagle woman was arrested Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a nurse at Monongahela Valley Hospital and a Monongahela police officer during an incident Friday.

Pamela J. Brooks, 37, of 123 Main St., is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count each of terroristic threats, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.

Police were called Friday night to the 200 block of Chess Street for a report of a woman knocking on a front door while holding a large bottle of liquor, according to a complaint filed by city police with District Judge Mark Wilson. When police arrived, they learned that the woman, later identified as Brooks, fled on foot before police arrived.

Another officer had seen her sitting on the front steps of a business in the 200 block of West Main Street, and officers said they found Brooks sitting on the steps, highly intoxicated and holding a bottle of vodka. Police said she started yelling about the death of her brother and was agitated. She was taken into custody, and police said they found a pill bottle with another person’s name on it.

When they arrived at the station, police put Brooks in a holding cell. She reportedly started yelling that she wanted out of the cell or she was going to kill herself. Police then saw her take off her T-shirt and bra. According to police, she tied one end of her bra around a sink inside the cell and the other end around her neck. She then fell to the floor in an apparent attempt to hang herself, police said.

Police called for emergency medical services and entered the cell, placing Brooks in handcuffs and removing the bra.

Officer Stephen Kenyon transported Brooks to Monongahela Valley Hospital. She reportedly continued to scream inside the emergency department. While hospital personnel and police were trying to restrain Brooks, she allegedly grabbed a nurse by her arm and bit Kenyon several times on the left hand. Brooks also allegedly threatened hospital employees and police. Brooks was admitted to the hospital for evaluation.

She was arraigned before Wilson and placed in the Washington County jail on $25,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for March 7.
