Young women who are high school juniors or seniors are invited to apply to serve as peer facilitators for the 13th annual Sister to Sister Summit of Washington County scheduled for April 12-13 at Citizens Library in Washington.

Part of an international series of Sister to Sister Summits, this overnight conference is sponsored locally by the Washington branches of the American Association of University Women and Business and Professional Women and Outreach Teen and Family Services with support from Citizens Library, Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern Pennsylvania and Washington Hospital Teen Outreach.

Peer facilitators will lead small groups of sixth- and seventh-grade girls in discussions about dealing with peer pressure, decision making, creating positive friendships and developing feelings of self-worth. They will share information about their common struggles and assist the girls in developing their own personal strategies for coping with the pressures of growing up.

In addition to small group discussions, a variety of other activities will also address critical areas of concern such as body image, bullying, personal safety and self-defense and dating. Team-building activities, “purposeful fun”, refreshments and ample sleep time will round out the agenda.

All young women in 11th and 12th grades who reside or go to school in Washington County are invited apply to serve as a peer facilitator. There is a mandatory training session on from 4 to 8 p.m. March 19 and peer facilitators are required to arrive at the Summit by 6 p.m. April 12 and stay until 11a.m. April 13.

Prospective peer facilitators should contact Summit co-coordinator Holly Sethman, Outreach Teen and Family Services, at 724-745-3350 extension 264 or holly.sethman@chartiers-houstonsd.com. In addition, copies of the registration form and Summit information were mailed to all high school guidance offices or can be downloaded through Facebook (search for “Sister~to~Sister”).

The application deadline for facilitators is March 12, although late applications will be accepted if space permits.
